Weekend house

Weekend house
Collaboration:Mária Šmilňáková, Martin Bujna
Project:2009
Completion:2010-11
Built Up Area:130 m2

At the beginning of the design for the weekend house, there were two requests from the investor - to have a "cottage somewhere in a nice environment" (preferably somewhere in the mountains of Central Slovakia) and "it should be a log cabin - wooden house."
Since the investor works in Bratislava during the week and has a family house with a large plot in Nosice near Púchov, we suggested the option to build a weekend house "at home." The investor's family will not have to travel anywhere during the weekend traffic peak, and they can go to the cottage after arriving home from work "in slippers." The design of the "log cabin" was more challenging :-), but in the end, the architectural concept along with the construction of the wooden building in overall effect with the wooden interior convinced the investor that a "wooden house" can have many (and also contemporary) forms.
The house offers an entry connecting (covered atrium) with an outdoor grill, a wellness area (with a sauna and hot tub), a living area with a dining room, and two bedrooms upstairs.
The house is realized in a low-energy standard, with ceramic stoves as the main source of heat and an additional option for electric heating.
