AssignmentThe clients owned a house in a small village with a view of Říp and a large apple orchard, where they went to relax on weekends. The place had grown dear to their hearts, and they decided to completely renovate the house and move permanently from Prague to this magical location. The task was to reconstruct the house in such a way that it met the technological and aesthetic requirements of the present day as much as possible while preserving the village character of the building and its charm. The interior was to feature an interesting combination of traditional and modern elements. Modern features were to create a cohesive, cozy impression alongside elements such as a brick vault.
Renovation ProcessDuring the uncovering of original structures and during demolition work, the very poor condition of the building was repeatedly encountered. The original truss and ceiling were deemed unsatisfactory, and the original vaults also had static cracks. The house lacked foundations, the load-bearing walls were not interconnected, and there were significant problems with rising damp. The extent of the planned renovation continued to grow, and with mild exaggeration, only the original red pump remained.
In the end, the house was therefore rebuilt from the ground up. Even so, the shape and layout of the original building were preserved, and it was possible to realize the vaults exactly as they were in the original structure.
SizeOn the ground floor of the house, in addition to the living room with a kitchen, there is a guest bedroom. On the upper floor, there is a children's room, a study with a dressing room, and the master bedroom. The total usable area of the house is 229 m2.
MaterialsThe house is plastered just like the original building, and the surrounds of the windows have been preserved. The newly built part, where the main entrance is located, is clad in stone. It features a pattern of limestone that was quarried in the area. The roof of this part and the dormer are covered with folded sheet metal in an anthracite shade. Just like in the interior, the principle of balanced combination of period elements with modern ones is applied here.
