Today it would be called a “side project,” back then it was a specific form of “Action Z.” Self-help design, self-help construction along with volunteer work on something completely incomprehensible to a high-ranking bureaucrat. There was a risk of the construction pit being bulldozed at his command. Fortune helped it not to be filled in, just as it did in the selection of the construction site.
The dream of a building made of red bricks in the landscape, meant to be a new interpretation of Zlín's industrial tradition, was only partially realized (the quality was not ensured even by the dad of a classmate - the director of the brickworks). So it was just a substitute with brick strips, a compositional modular framework like a weathervane at 60° for order in the intertwining of internal spaces and for placing the building on the edge of the landscape relief of the Kudlovská Highlands. To resonate with the landscape, the principle was to interfere as little as possible with the construction upon arrival (part of the building was placed below ground) and the surprise inside was the view of the landscape with a genuinely wide-angle shot of 120” from the large hall (influence of the GORIZONT camera, which was secretly transported from excursions to the USSR). We only recognized that the building was photogenic even from an airplane in 1993 when it became possible to fly and photograph anything.
Today, however, it is just nostalgia. After the “privatization for the fifth time,” an entrepreneur came with the girls (the name of the place Pindula probably inspired him) and retold the whole idyllic story, or rather reconstructed it with the help of some authorized colleague. However, I helped declare the surrounding landscape as the Želechovické Paseky Natural Park.
