The original house dates back to the 1920s and was designed by the renowned architect
František Albert Libra. However, the owners were dissatisfied with its layout and the required spatial standards.
A key limiting factor was that it was part of a semi-detached house. It was not an independent structure capable of withstanding a significant aesthetic transformation. It is a "paired" structure, where the overall volume and shape cannot be altered. With a relatively challenging construction program, as the investors requested three separate bedrooms, ample storage space, and sufficient hygiene standards, the above-mentioned parameters seemed somewhat complicated. However, we hope that we were ultimately able to fulfill the investors' brief while preserving the original character of the entire building.
The newly constructed structures are primarily made of ceramic bricks, with partitions made of plasterboard on the second floor and in the attic. The ceilings are a combination of steel and concrete, with some wooden ceilings retained. The original staircase is wooden, while the new one is steel. The windows are made of wood. The wall surfaces are finished with new core plasters and stucco. The house is completely equipped with high-quality thermal insulation. The facade of the building is insulated and newly plastered with a smooth two-layer finishing plaster in a light gray-white hue. The roofing consists of aluminum sheet tiles, as does the cladding of all dormers. All existing windows have been replaced with new ones featuring slender profiles, as close as possible to the original state. Most of the furniture is built-in, custom-made. The floors are oak or made of Jurassic marble.
The top floor is accessed via black metal stairs and features a bathroom with a shower and the owners' bedroom, from which there is a view of the hallway. The lower floor contains two children's rooms and a bathroom with a bathtub, and the ground floor includes an entryway, a hallway, a wooden staircase to the upper floor, a small study, a WC, and the main living area with a kitchen and dining nook.
The house is home to a family of four with two children, now of school age.
