The project assignment was to create a design for the internal layout of the food court in such a way that we not only increased its capacity but also created a pleasant and comfortable environment for visitors to OC Olympia Plzeň. Additionally, we also planned the design of the entrance lobby for customers, including public access corridors, and we increased the capacity of the social facilities. We chose an industrial style that corresponds with the city's tradition as a significant industrial center. We suitably complemented it with natural elements based on a combination of moss and live flowers.
The biggest challenge of our work was the absence of valid documentation of the existing state. Despite this, we prepared new detailed documentation that included a complete design of the construction modifications. The architectural solution included appropriate interior furnishings with both standard and custom-made furniture. We enhanced the overall impression with a creative choice of lighting. The ambience of the environment, where the visitors of this food court really feel good, is shaped by natural green elements.
All buildings in the Olympia shopping center network are characterized by an atypical approach in terms of constructions and setting standards for customers. These are structures made of load-bearing steel frameworks, which often appear as brick-built due to façade and interior cladding, and in the case of Plzeň, they also take on a historicizing aspect. Another feature of the project is significant decentralization of the technical equipment and also specific settings of technical conditions in relation to the landlord and tenant. This complicates the implementation of the design across all professions. The project was successfully realized, as evidenced by the award received at the Art of Space Awards 2019 in the category of Most Attractive Meeting Point - Retail.
