Soil reconstruction of a duplex in Košíře

Soil reconstruction of a duplex in Košíře
Completion:2018-19
Area:41 m2

Furniture: PROFIL NÁBYTEK, a.s.
The duplex, reminiscent of English houses in size, was beginning to feel too small for its owners (by the way, half-English themselves); thus, they decided to utilize the still-empty attic space and transform it into a generous bedroom area with its own bathroom.
The house is located in a residential area of Prague's Košíře. The layout of the existing living space of 4+1 remained unchanged, only increased by one room in the attic. The owners requested a more conservative approach to the design, emphasizing practicality and modesty. The bedroom should evoke a sense of calm and relaxation. A prominent feature in the space is a large white bookshelf in the gable wall, which also serves as sound insulation from the neighboring house. A pleasant area was also created under the new roof windows, providing a beautiful view of Prague, where a metal desk with a solid top is placed. A distinctive element of the interior is the exposed roof structure complemented by hanging fixtures - glass spheres.
The attic space required significant structural modifications. A completely new floor composition had to be created, with the final layer made of wooden oak boards, and ceramic tiles in the bathroom. The existing roof structure was preserved but needed to be treated and refinished. A dormer clad in folded titanium-zinc sheet metal in anthracite color was built between the full trusses on the southern side of the house. The trusses at the connection point had to be reinforced with U profiles. On the northern side, the roof was punctured with new roof windows, bringing light into the newly created bathroom and workspace. All windows were wooden; the wood structure was left visible in the interior, while the exterior is painted in anthracite color. Complete insulation of the roof was newly carried out, and a new terracotta roof covering was added in brick color.
A new partition was built between the living space and the bathroom. The bathroom features a sink, a shower, and a toilet. The color scheme is very modest, with small white ceramic tiles on the walls and floor tiles with a concrete decor. The preparation for water supply and drainage was already completed from the previous renovation, allowing for connections to the installed fixtures. Heating conduits and the installation of heating bodies also needed to be addressed, and preparations for a possible future air conditioning unit were made.
Recently, the client received documentation for the building permit, which also addresses the extension into the garden, which should increase the living space on the ground floor and connect the house more significantly with the exterior.
