In the pulsating Dlouhá Street in the center of Prague, the collaboration of the Formafatal and Machar&Teichman studios was given the opportunity to design the enigmatic Moon club.
The newly opened club brings a fresh perspective on design in this location. The client's brief was to create a venue that would elevate the standard above the current competition in terms of appearance and detail quality.
The spaces, originally intended for administration, connect to a central hall with a glass roof. This posed the main challenge in terms of both space handling and technical aspects, particularly regarding acoustics, which received significant attention. The chosen solutions, such as the double glass ceiling, various acoustic partitions, and plasters are integrated into the overall concept of the interior.
The combination of the original layout with the operational requirements of the club resulted in the creation of several distinct zones. Along the hall, the original vaulted spaces have been transformed into cozy nooks with lounge furniture and intimate lighting, while another part features a dance floor. Upstairs, one can observe the happenings around the bar from the balcony or move to one of the lounges or soak in the atmosphere of the Alchemist bar.
The main motif, as indicated by the club's name, is the moon. The theme revolves around the mystery of twilight and night, as well as alchemical mystique. The walls are enveloped in a patina that permeates the entire space, uniting the club's 740 m² interior despite its diversity.
Each space was intended to represent a different atmosphere through its interior design, providing a new experience while still connecting to the main theme of mystery and mystique.
The materials and colors used vary across the different areas of the club – patinated sheets, smoked wood, solid wooden cubes, antiqued mirrors, painted ornaments on the walls, and the various colors of velvet on the upholstered furniture.
A significant role in the interior is played by the atmosphere created by layered lighting in varying intensities, hidden backlighting, designer light fixtures, or glowing objects.
Dominating the entire club is a central bar, above which the silhouettes of the moon hover. Three large circular chandeliers, together with hanging clusters of cylindrical light fixtures, reflect in the glass ceiling like a night sky, deepening the space and enhancing its magical quality.
The bar is clad in golden wavy metal and is topped with a high semicircular wall made of smoked wood, which has a place for the DJ at its peak. The motif of the circle is omnipresent.
From the street, you can glimpse into the main hall with the central bar through the former passage, where the first bar is located. The wooden cobblestones on the floor are purposefully chosen, reflecting the original function of the space.
