Apartment Slezská

A young couple who acquired an apartment in a quiet part of Prague's Vinohrady turned to architects from the Formafatal studio with the wish to create an elegant and sophisticated interior in an eclectic spirit. The owners did not want to make too many changes to the apartment's layout; however, a partial reconstruction was deemed necessary after the architects' assessment.

The beautiful spacious and bright apartment boasts high ribbed ceilings, original paneled doors, and wooden windows. All of these original elements were restored and preserved in the apartment.

The apartment owners had in their collection artworks, paintings by Martin Krajc and Tadeáš Kotrba, which guided the selection of colors throughout the apartment and furnishings. The chosen color scheme of the interior emphasizes and highlights these artworks, with the colors from the paintings gradually dissolving into the interior and complemented by other high-quality materials, such as walnut wood, marble, and onyx.

Another requirement from the investors was functionality, comfort, and practicality of the interior, as well as high quality of all construction modifications and custom-made furniture, or ample storage space. In addition, there was a fondness for quality contemporary design and a desire to maintain the lightness of the entire space.

All these requirements were successfully combined, and to enhance the airiness and sightlines, the architects undertook the task of demolishing part of the load-bearing wall, where they enlarged the construction opening between the main living area and the study. Moreover, there is a projection screen installed in the frame of this portal, transforming the living room into a home cinema.

For the large number of books that the owners wanted to place on shelves, the architects designed a large storage shelf across the entire wall. This generous bookshelf is the centerpiece of the study and serves as a pleasant backdrop when viewed from the living room.

Pastel green and gray tones dominate the large surfaces of the entire apartment, and in contrast with the dark wooden floor, color-stained ornamental cement tiles, and vividly colored furniture, they create a bold yet elegant interior. The chosen velvet for the upholstered furniture further emphasizes this elegance.

An important role in the interior design was again the lighting of the entire space, which comprises a range of accent and indirect lighting, as well as a careful selection of ceiling and standing fixtures from renowned global manufacturers.
