The spacious apartment for a young man in a panel building in Prague Kobylisy underwent a complete renovation. It was necessary to replace the utilities, completely modify the layout of the bathroom, kitchen, and wall and floor surfaces.
On an area of 78 m², the client wished to create a simply and uniformly appearing interior, and his desire was to use natural cork to the greatest extent possible. Thus, this material became one of the central motifs of the apartment’s design concept.
It appears on the floors of almost the entire area of the layout. The large-format floating floor made of natural cork with a durable surface finish brought not only aesthetic unity to the apartment in the panel building but also further advantages - excellent acoustic and thermal insulation properties.
Cork is also present on the bathroom wall, where the round cork mosaic became an interesting yet unobtrusive detail next to the simple cladding of large-format gray ceramics. By modifying the bathroom layout and relocating the washing machine to a separate niche in the hall, it was possible to place both a bathtub and a shower in the bathroom.
The modification of the kitchen's layout brought together the living space with the dining table and the kitchen area. The kitchen unit is simple in shape and material but provides maximum possible storage space and a comfortable area for the owner’s passion for cooking and fine wine.
Above the dining table hangs a cork chandelier designed by Benjamin Hubert, made from leftover cork granules that were produced as waste material during the manufacturing of cork wine stoppers.
In the hall, a mobile stool made of natural wooden logs welcomes you, alongside a niche for keys or pinned notes with cork backs. The entire space is further characterized by a white color scheme combined with light gray shades on the built-in furniture elements.
