Café of the Faculty of Education MU

This involves the creation of a café as a new meeting place for students of the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University in Brno. Two classrooms on the ground floor were selected as suitable spaces, which we connected architecturally and transformed into a dignified café with representative entrances suitable for an academic environment.

The café space is meant to reflect the diversity that is ubiquitous within the Faculty of Education, which has such a broad scope, while also supporting the intertwining and exchange of information among all visitors. The interior furnishings therefore offer several different types of seating, ranging from classic café tables to individual spots along the walls and at a large community table, as well as informal seating in the lounge area. The furniture is primarily made up of mobile elements so that the space can be continuously adapted as needed.

The café should become a common center for informal gatherings for both students and faculty. For this reason, it is crucial that it logically connects with the existing flow of users in the building — its main entrance is designed as a new opening directly aligned with the busy access to the adjacent faculty building, while a side entrance connects it to seating in the corridor and also to the planned terrace in the building's courtyard. The interior layout with a central bar divides the space into three areas with different atmospheres, which are still interconnected and transparent. Two exits allow for smooth movement for orders at the bar during lunchtime and breaks.

The facilities and technical connections respect the limitations of the historic building without sacrificing the logic of the internal space.
