This interior realization refers back to a functionalist interwar icon - today the
Commercial Bank in Brno by architects Bohuslav Fuchs and Arnošt Wiesner from 1930.
The hairdressing salon is situated on Veselá Street opposite the
DNB interior, which I realized in 2008. The bank building, due to the arrangement of its façade, visually stands on two interiors by the same architect from this side.
The goal of this project was to connect with the distinctive architectural expression of the building, which primarily derives from the bearing spine of the reinforced concrete structure, perceiving its material accent in scale and the constructive content of the expressive means used in the actual realization of the interior.
The idea was to create a scene where hairdressers work creatively and are directly connected to the space of Veselá Street and the passage of the bank. The scene is realized as a diagonal spatial raumplan, where the elevation of levels leads to the basic disposition solution and simultaneous mutual release..
The scale and arrangement of the introduced raumplan form a certain connecting core, with the basic structure of operational functions. This structure is followed by the installation of the interior equipment, realized as solitaires, which are parallels in the interior space concerning scale and material influence regarding the existing individuality of the architectural context.
The exposed reinforced concrete structure of the bank has been softened by a illuminated white spray, a visual reduction that abstracts the inner form of space to a certain degree, and in the final phase highlights the introduced intention of material forms in the light influence of the daily and nightly accents of the space.
The basic material archetype here remains black steel, concrete building lintels, old massive beams, stainless steel sheets, mirrored walls, which are integrated into the space in their characteristic visual predictions, scale, and mass.
In this context, it is about seeking the essence and authenticity of the chosen structural elements of fixed and mobile forms, which are to be perceived through a natural aesthetics of materials, a certain building ordinary, where the external and internal form changes in its contrast, but the essence remains the same - the mere state of the material is the space itself.
This project primarily concerns the mental content of architectural thinking - the actual interface between building ostentation and the retained raw detail of craftsmanship. The overall exposure of ambiguous states and the search for approximation between the assignment and the introduced architectural form is the theme, function, and social-visual message.
