Jan Hus - exhibition of Hus's house in Constance

Courage to think, courage to believe, courage to die

Jan Hus - exhibition of Hus's house in Constance
Address: Hussenstraße 64, Constance, Germany
Contest:2013
Completion:2014
Area:160 m2

The new exhibition at the Huss House in Constance guides visitors through the life and teachings of Jan Hus, from his birth to his burning, and highlights the impact of his teachings to this day.
The exhibition design emphasizes the values of the interior of the medieval half-timbered house, which is kept as open and airy as possible. The half-timbered walls, wooden ceilings, and floors make a strong impression in the small and somewhat confined space of the house.
The exhibition is thematically divided into six sections presented in individual rooms of the house, which visitors are guided through by a timeline on the walls. The timeline highlights important dates and milestones in Jan Hus's life. The wall explanations are complemented by furniture elements - Hus stones, in which illustrative images, exhibits, and supplementary information are placed. The form of the furniture element - a stylized stone - is inspired by the monuments of Jan Hus, which are often represented by solitary stones. The line of interpretation is supplemented by a children’s program that refers to the theme of the exhibition or to the historical house itself in both form and content.
The exhibition is complemented on the ground floor of the house by a study/lecture room, which also serves for temporary exhibitions. This room flows seamlessly into the entrance area with a new reception desk and visitor's corner.
