LocationThe traditional stone cottage is part of the original few cottages located away from civilization in the midst of beautiful nature, where meadows, fields, forests, and ponds dominate the landscape.
Overall ConceptIt's interesting how sometimes paths in life intertwine. A client for whom we designed a house a few years ago recommended us, which led us to a fantastic client who placed immense trust in us. She entrusted us with her heart's project—a cottage where she grew up and spent her childhood. The goal was to perform a partial renovation and interior design. This involved a new interior for the main living space with a kitchen and dining area, along with a complete renovation of the rear part of the cottage, which contained inadequate facilities. The client had one request: to preserve the traditional character of the stone cottage while adding subtle, modern elements to the interior.
Proposed SolutionIn the main living space, we designed an L-shaped kitchen complemented by separate tall cabinets for the refrigerator and oven, providing ample storage space. We retained the area for the dining table and living section. Together with a stove specialist, we designed new stoves for the places where they have always stood. We had the inadequate rear section completely demolished and proposed a completely new layout for the bathroom with a shower, a pantry that also serves as a storage area, and a separate bedroom.
Material SolutionWe wanted to use traditional materials. Therefore, we had the old stone walls uncovered locally, which give the interior the right spirit. New partitions were made from facing brickwork painted white. We left the ceilings in the main space with wooden beams. For the floors in the hallway, bathroom, and pantry, we chose hexagonal tiles. In the bedroom, a new wooden plank floor was installed. The tiled stove for baking, together with a beautiful solid wood table for 10 people, forms the focal points of the main living area. We selected furniture materials in a combination of solid dark brown wood, which beautifully complements the visible carcasses and door fronts with a gray coating. The appliances were chosen in black with brass accessories.
Furniture SelectionWe designed the interior completely, so we selected stylish lights and switches as well as unique furniture. Whether it was chairs, a sofa, coffee tables, or bedroom furniture. We haven't received such immense trust from a client in a long time as we did on this project. We believe it was worth it, and the feedback directly from the client, her family, and friends only confirms this, as the cottage's interior is highly appreciated.
