Authentic Vietnamese restaurant Gỗ is situated in three levels of a functionalist house in the center of Brno. The complex interior originates from the original design that allows guests to watch the preparation of food directly from the dining tables. The open food preparation area in the basement is complemented by the kitchen. Guests are offered several seating options, including bar seating with a view of the street.
The design was created during intensive collaboration with the investor's family, whose surname Le means wood in Vietnamese. Many first names of family members were also inspired by trees and other plants. This information served as an entry point for the entire interior and the business graphics. The architect and investor were looking for a contemporary intersection between Czech and Vietnamese culture without the direct use of historicizing elements of the individual cultures. Our goal was to create a new common visual language.
The interior features various types of wood typical for Vietnam, prints of tree trunk cuts, and typical colors from Buddhist mandalas. The furniture is complemented by textile flags with restaurant motifs hanging on a wooden structure from the ceiling.
