In the vicinity of Leoš Janáček International Airport, we received a brief to design an administrative building with a training hall for helicopter pilots.
The administrative building includes corporate offices and associated functions, as well as technical testing rooms and all the necessary support for aviation activities. In the case of potential company growth, there is the possibility of an extension that could accommodate lodging capacities and additional facilities such as a café, etc.
It consists of two cuboidal masses, with a dark heavy cube of simulator halls contrasting with the lighter elongated administrative section, which seems to float above the terrain and connects to the context of the airport and aviation in general. The glazed ground floor containing representative entrance spaces lightens and elevates the main volume of the building. The context of the site and the function of the building is also reflected in the supporting structure, which is made up of the thinnest possible steel beams, wrapped in a lightweight thermal insulating shell made of metal sandwich panels. The entire administrative section is further highlighted by a shiny cloak of expanded metal, which unifies the entire volume and creates a pleasant shade not only in sunny summer weather.
