The design of 2 small bathrooms and a kitchen in a duplex apartment in Prague's Vinohrady was entrusted to architect Dagmar Štěpánová by a young couple. Given that the apartment owners had lived in London for several years, their requests for the designed part of the interior were a kind of reflection of their feelings about the environment of London.
All 3 proposed units are interconnected by the materials used, primarily brass. This is expressed in various details in each room. Each of the proposed parts has its specific character. The kitchen most refers in a stylized form to the environment of London. The white bathroom is in the spirit of minimalism, while the gray-green mini bathroom comes closest to an industrial style with its expression. Here, classic wire glass was utilized in the form of an atypically designed shower screen, and the ordinary ceramic sink was placed on a structure made of welded square profiles. Thanks to the fact that part of the wall behind the sink is covered with a mirror that extends the full height of the room, the bathroom measuring 1.5x1.6m has gained a feeling of being 2x larger in dimension. The brass elements are reflected in the vintage shower mixer and the sink siphon in this bathroom.
In the minimally designed white bathroom, a brass sink is placed on a solid wood cabinet, above which is a round mirror set into a wooden shelf made from an old beam. One wing of the cabinet doors was assigned to the artist Aleš Poláček, who hand-painted the doors. The shape of both the sink and the mirror reacts to the chosen type of tiling.
The kitchen corner is not too large either, but every cm² is utilized. Whether it’s the corner cabinets with a carousel or the narrow pocket behind the column that serves to dry dishcloths. All visual parts of the kitchen unit are made from plywood. The surface is oiled in black or gray with milled grooves. The countertop made of black compact reflects the ceramic tiles in the shade of patinated brass. Other brass elements include semi-recessed handles and a dish sink. The hanging lights above the peninsula are from the Normann Copenhagen workshop. The entire kitchen unit was made by the carpentry workshop Dyzyk according to the architect's original design.
