Selecting shading technology for large or atypical roof windows can often be problematic. When choosing shading elements for standard facade windows of a house, we can usually select from a wide range of materials and a diverse offer of blinds, shutters, or curtains. However, if we need to shade spaces located under a glass horizontal or sloped roof, the options narrow down. What possibilities exist and where can we look for such shading?
In today's new buildings, we encounter quite large and often atypical glazed areas. These areas often pose a challenge for architects – they give homes a touch of luxury, elegance, and minimalism, but they also come with more demanding maintenance and a more complicated choice of shading technology that should not disrupt the architectural intention.
Especially during the summer months, excessive sunlight penetrates through these areas, and rooms heat up quickly. In winter, on the other hand, we face the opposite problem, which is the rapid cooling of spaces. Whether it's overheating or excessive cooling of spaces, in both cases, it is an undesirable effect, and therefore it is necessary to pay attention to appropriate shading, especially for sloped and horizontal glazed areas.
Based on these requirements, BEMATECH, a leading European manufacturer of shading technology, developed special VERANDA SKY systems that solve the shading of large glazed roof areas even for the most demanding customers. You can choose from three different ceiling shading systems with patented elements – X-SKY, SY-SKY, and RR-SKY. The VERANDA systems, characterized by high variability, allow architects and property owners to effectively shade even large and atypical areas without disrupting the minimalist concept of the building object. They are designed for shading verandas, winter gardens, skylights, or large roof windows, where they help regulate incoming light and heat.
SKY systems can be installed at any angle of the glazed area up to a size of 18 m2, thanks to the variety of used technologies, fabrics, and also due to the flexible tightening of the fabric.
The X-SKY system is attached to the window with zippers and is motorized. |
If your space is designed in a minimalist style, you will surely be interested in the X-SKY shading design. This is an interior ceiling roller blind made from so-called screen fabric. The material of screen fabrics contains a blend of fiberglass known for its top-notch technical properties, which greatly limits the penetration of both light and thermal energy. Zippers and gas struts located in the profiles of guide rails allow for effective tightening of the fabric and complete blackout of the space if necessary. The system is available in three box sizes – 89 mm, 103 mm, and 131 mm. While for the first two smaller sizes, X-SKY 89 and X-SKY 103, the installation is performed into the reveal, the larger box X-SKY 131, measuring 131 mm, can also be installed over the opening.
The interior ceiling roller X-SKY consists of screen fabric made from a fiber-reinforced material that has excellent technical properties. |
In a similar design as the previously described system, the SY-SKY system features two motors housed in opposite boxes and operated by a synchronization unit. The first motor serves as the pulling force, while the second tension's the fabric. Thanks to its technical properties, the roller can shade extensive window areas up to 18 m² in size. Another advantage and a difference from other products is the option to extend up to 6.5 m. In addition to the standard version, the roller can also be ordered in a zip-guided variant XSY-SKY, all in a motorized version.
The SY-SKY roller blinds can shade large window areas up to 18 m² in size.
Those who favor a traditional look will surely appreciate the third shading system from BEMATECH – RR-SKY, which is particularly suitable for shading winter gardens or large studio windows.
The RR SKY system is suitable for horizontal, sloped, and shape atypical glazing (such as trapezoidal). Due to the placement of the roller at heights, motorized control is often chosen. The system can also be operated manually by hand, chain, or crank, and thanks to the patented brake in the bottom profile, it can be stopped in any position with a single pull. The guide cables that move the fabric are led in bowden cables, allowing installers variable installation of side profiles without needing to fix the profiles to the sides of the cassette, where the rolling axle is located. As an alternative to the classic RR SKY system, a variant with 6 mm supporting cables instead of side aluminum profiles is available. This variant is used especially in installations where mounting aluminum guide profiles is not suitable.
RR-SKY can also be installed on shape atypical glazing.
The three different SKY systems designed for shading verandas, winter gardens, skylights, or large or atypical roof windows are synonymous with functionality and elegance. They all excel at their primary functions – regulating light and heat, while also appropriately adapting to the interior and serving a decorative purpose. You can choose from a wide range of easily maintainable fabrics – from more durable screen fabrics to fabrics used for making roman shades. With a diverse selection of materials (transparent, translucent, opaque, and fire-resistant fabrics), color shades, and patterns, even the most demanding customer will find something suitable. If you are looking for appropriate shading for your veranda, winter garden, skylights, or large or atypical roof windows, and you value premium quality products and customer care, the VERANDA SKY systems from BEMATECH are the right choice for you.
