The March Light+Building fair in Frankfurt brought a number of novelties to the segment of designer lighting as well. Spanish manufacturer Marset, Italian Zafferano, and earlier this year, Danish Lightyears, represented by the Czech company Light Works, showcased their innovations at the fair. The diversity in trends allows for the creation of completely new lights as well as redesigns of proven products.

DIPPING LIGHT / MARSET

Despite its primary task of lighting, Dipping Light captivates with its appearance as an object in itself. When turned on, pleasant light flows out through various shades. When off, it remains a visually pleasing object worthy of being placed on a bedside table, shelf, or coffee table.
The designer Jordi Canudas is an alchemist of light. He experiments with it, learns from it, and lets it surprise him. With his lamps, he aims to capture the essence of light. Dipping Light is one of his experiments - the color effect is created by repeatedly dipping the glass sphere into color. The layers of color create concentric circles that gradually soften the intensity of the light. The color itself thus serves as a shade that colors and directs the light. The handmade production makes each Dipping Light lamp a unique piece complemented by a brass base.
The collection offers 2 sizes and 6 color variants - green, yellow, blue, pink, white, and black. Each color also tints the light to that particular shade, creating a different atmosphere.

DISCOCÓ / MARSET

The iconic Discocó lamp from the Spanish manufacturer Marset has received a new version. 10 years after its market introduction, it has been dressed in a wooden coat. The individual petals of the lamp are now newly covered with luxurious oak veneer. The properties and comfort radiating from this material are unmatched in many respects. Despite the visual heaviness of the wood, the lamp maintains its lightness both to the eye and physically. The metal structure of the lamp also received a new, graphite finish.
Even with the new wood decor, Discocó plays a dramatic game of light and shadow and floods the interior with extremely pleasant light. It is available in a pendant version with a diameter of 68 cm.

CARAVAGGIO / LIGHTYEARS

There is little to improve on the refined Danish design of the Caravaggio lamp. Its characteristic, simple, and elegant shape makes it a constant in interior design. However, one innovation occurred this year, introducing 4 new shades - silk white, burgundy red, ultramarine blue, and warm gray. The new colors are available in 3 sizes of pendant lamps - with diameters of 165, 258, and 400 mm.

VETRA / MARSET

At first glance, Vetra may seem like a traditional chandelier made of blown glass. However, when lit, the initially old-fashioned lamp surprises with a modern approach. Designer Joan Gaspar played with its shape and created a unique, entirely closed glass diffuser that also functions as a reflector. The light source is creatively placed outside, instead of the traditional placement inside the lamp. Vetra thus lights up through reflection and provides far more light than one would expect, and that too completely without glare. The vast majority of the light points downwards, while the rest penetrates upward into the opal shade and gently illuminates it.
The Vetra collection includes a pendant lamp, table lamp, and floor lamp in 3 diameters - 200, 320, and 430 mm. The base of the table and floor lamp is intentionally made up of 2 unharmonious parts, which break the otherwise perfect symmetry of the lamp.

HIGH LINE / MARSET

Visually, it is a light sculpture, a slender, elegant line that seemingly emits light without the source being immediately recognizable. The new floor lamp was designed by Joseph Lluís Xuclá to generate light indirectly, that is, by reflection. The direction of the light is also unique; it does not traditionally shine on the ceiling, but rather the light is directed towards the wall. As the designer himself says: "The wall is the best friend of the High Line lamp, and like friends, they want to be close to each other."
The lamp consists of 3 blocks of different volumes and colors. The longest, vertically standing block carries the light source and offers options in wenge and oak wood. The smaller connecting block is made of lacquered wood. Both stand on a black base, which defines the ideal distance of the lamp from the wall in order for the lamp to reflect the light perfectly. The simplicity, almost austerity of the shape, is balanced by the use of wood and rich colors.

FUNICULÍ / MARSET

The beloved design of the Funiculí lamps, created by the Spanish manufacturer Marset, is over 30 years old, yet it remains functional and modern. Simple adjustment from direct to indirect lighting, adjustable lamp height, and a color palette ranging from muted to bright leave very little room for innovation. However, one direction remained unexplored.
The new version of Funiculí comes with a fabric shade. This variant was designed by Lluís Porqueras back in 1979, yet it has only now seen the light of day. The design fully respects the original design of the lamp, with only slight changes in proportions. Thus, the fundamental idea of the lamp remains its simplicity, while the fabric shade adds a more sophisticated look and originality. The fabric of the shade allows plenty of light to filter into the interior. The new Funiculí is available in wall-mounted, table, and floor lamp versions, with a black body and a white or beige shade.

AURA / MARSET

A simple everyday item like a glass carafe can serve as inspiration for creating a lamp. Designer Joan Gaspar transformed it for the Spanish company Marset into the Aura wall lamp. For this year, the design has been slimmed down and overall enlarged. Compared to the original version, it is noticeably more powerful. It still offers a selection of many color variants.

BONNIE E CLYDE / ZAFFERANO

Hand-blown lamps made from famous Venetian glass Bonnie e Clyde have expanded their color palette with 4 metallic shades. The surface of the complementary shapes of Bonnie e Clyde lamps features a characteristic ribbed relief. In addition to the basic colors, special coated shades have now been added - silver, bronze, antique, and rose gold.
