In the field of door systems, simple and smooth lines, minimalist appearance, and design purity are increasingly gaining prominence. This is reflected in the trend of disappearing frames, which is also applied to sliding doors that retract into a building pocket, whose frame-free designs are gradually replacing traditional versions with wooden casing.

Sliding doors into a pocket are a door system that offers total space savings, barrier-free access, and allows for variability in connecting the interior. "Building pockets are designed for both drywall and brick partitions, available in versions for single-leaf and double-leaf doors, and atypical dimensions are not a problem," states Mr. Petr Paksi, the executive director of J.A.P, a Czech manufacturer of design door systems, adding: "In conventional interiors, models with classical casing are utilized, while in modern interiors, frame-free solutions are gradually prevailing."
LATENTE pocket aligns the casing with the wall
The traditional pocket frames are presented by the NORMA series, which includes not only the STANDARD variant intended for single-leaf doors and the KOMFORT variant intended for double-leaf doors, but also the PARALLEL type, which allows for the sliding of two wings in parallel behind each other in a synchronized movement. A unique solution, particularly for the renovation of panel apartments, is the NORMA UNIBOX pocket, where two doors slide into one pocket, ideally separating two adjacent rooms, such as a bathroom and a toilet.
A variant where the traditional wooden frame is aligned in a single line with the wall is the LATENTE building pocket.
Frame-free building pockets
The completely frame-free pocket solution is the design model AKTIVE. Its construction is adapted to create only the edge of the passage opening and can be concealed under the final surface treatment of the partition, be it paint or wallpaper. The door wing thus forms a single plane with the partition. Due to its design purity, the AKTIVE model is ideal for minimalist interiors. A variant of the frame-free pocket with design framing is the EMOTIVE model. A classic frame is not used; the passage opening is protected by a slender 17 mm wide aluminum frame, which not only prevents mechanical damage to the door passage but also serves a design function.

If it is necessary to place sliding and hinged doors next to each other in a single space, it is not a problem to match their frame to a uniform appearance. The frame-free solution in the form of hidden frames AKTIVE and EMOTIVE brings a minimalist appearance even for hinged doors.
