Rigips, Ltd. announced the winning projects of the 6th biennial national round of the Rigips Trophy, part of the prestigious international competition Saint-Gobain Gyproc Trophy 2010. The aim is to support the artistry, skill, and quality of work of companies in the field of dry internal construction.During the ceremonial gala evening in Brno on April 23, 2010, three winning interior realizations were presented, along with a Special Jury Award, Special Director's Award, and the Audience Award on-site.

At the ceremonial gala evening of Rigips on April 23, 2010, the long-secret winning projects of the Rigips Trophy competition, part of the international Saint-Gobain Gyproc Trophy 2010, were announced in the Beseda House in Brno. The evening, filled with original realizations, award presentations, and live string music from the trio Inflagranti, was hosted by sports presenter Vojtěch Bernatský.

The competition is intended for execution companies and aims to support artistry, skill, and quality of work. The prize for the winning interior was contested by execution companies that realized and completed projects (a cohesive part of a project) using Rigips systems in the Czech Republic during the period from October 1, 2007 – September 30, 2009, while adhering to prescribed assembly rules and application guidelines.

A total of 35 projects were submitted to the national round of Rigips Trophy 2010, showcasing a diverse mix of uses of drywall systems, Rigidur fiberboard systems, and Rigips cassette and ceiling structures.

The spectrum of interiors includes projects ranging from new constructions of sports halls, shopping centers, or office spaces to renovations and reconstructions of residential buildings, social halls, and commercial spaces, as well as constructions and modifications of family houses or attic floors.

In this competition, the size of the project does not play a role, but rather the originality of the constructions, technical level of execution, use of special techniques, and overall aesthetic impression.

The winner of the national round of Rigips Trophy 2010 was determined by a specialized jury in March 2010. The winning realization of the Rigips Trophy will be presented from June 3 to 5, 2010, at the world forum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The top three winning places were awarded not only a trophy but also financial rewards:
1st prize – 50,000 CZK
2nd prize – 30,000 CZK
3rd prize – 20,000 CZK.
All prizes will be disbursed as follows:
- 60% in the form of a financial reward,
- 40% in the form of tools and clothing from the Rigips offer according to their own choice.

Results of the Rigips Trophy 2010

1st place
Family House of Mr. and Mrs. Šístkových, Plzeň
New construction of a family house

Execution company: Jiří Breburda, Chlumčany
Architect: Mgr. Jaroslav Mudra – design, Ing. Václav Svejkovský – realization, M DESIGN STUDIO PLZEŇ, s.r.o.
General contractor: Ing. Přemysl Tolar

Mr. Jiří Breburda's installation company had to meet the demanding ideas of the architect, who was inspired by the possibilities of dry construction. Many drywall elements seem to "levitate" in space. However, everything is subject to gravity, so the installers had to devise extraordinary methods in their work. Combining the technical solution of hanging with the aesthetic requirements set by the architect proved to be not simple. Drywall was also used in this family house to create built-in storage spaces and played a role in furniture assemblies, including an extraordinary bedroom.

2nd place
Audi Showroom, Ostrava
New construction of a car showroom

Execution company: HAWLIK & sons, s.r.o., Ludgeřovice
Architect: Ing. arch. Otmar Daněk, DANĚK DESIGN, s.r.o., Brno
General contractor: VOKD, a.s.

The modern combination of steel structures and drywall areas required perfect adaptation of the installation to the demands of the architect. The most prominent element of the interior of this car showroom is the rounded and undulating surface of a large, acoustically effective ceiling made of perforated Rigiton panels, which arches over the two-storey sales area. The demanding shape of the ceiling is matched by the careful shaping of the cornices and cladding of the railing on the gallery on the first floor of the showroom. Noteworthy in this car showroom is also the use of special Riflex panels for curved walls.

3rd place
Lecture Hall ÚPMD, Prague
Extension of the building to the maternity hospital

Execution company: Allegro s.r.o., Prague
Architect: Ing. arch. Michal Nekola, ATELIER 6, s.r.o.
General contractor: HOCHTIEF CZ a.s.

The unconventional architecture of the new standalone lecture hall is echoed in its interior. The cross-section in the shape of an irregular spiral required a completely unique approach to the bearing structure itself. The interior cladding, where it is nearly impossible to distinguish between the ceiling and the walls, is precisely executed with a combination of acoustic perforated Gyptone Bend Line boards, flexible Riflex boards, and standard drywall.

Special Jury Award
Family House of Mrs. Maupicová, Mnichovo Hradiště
Reconstruction of attic space into an apartment

Execution company: Věra Šikolová K+K stavby Turnov drywall
Architect: Slávka Maupicová
General contractor: Věra Šikolová K+K stavby Turnov drywall

Drywall constructions were used this time in a truly historic building. In a log cabin from 1720, modern materials were incorporated very sensitively. The installation company brilliantly tackled the continuity of original historic wooden beams and drywall surfaces. Well-executed details show that good craftsmanship still exists.

Special Director's Award
Department Store My, Prague
Reconstruction of 6 floors of the department store

Execution company: KORENC s.r.o., Cítoliby
Architect: Ing. Filip Hačkajlo, Chapman Tailor International Services s.r.o.
General contractor: GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o.

The department store, with a long-standing tradition, has gained a touch of luxury not only with a new interior but also with final touches and cleverly designed details. Among these is indirect lighting designed from drywall ramps lining height steps of the ceilings. These lighting ramps, which run the entire length of the open sales areas, are a masterpiece of the installation company. The height variation of both straight and curved ceilings posed high demands on the technical solution for hanging and the stability of the bearing structure.
