KOMA MODULAR s.r.o.

All discussions about the use of urban public space often depend on people with decision-making authority. They also have certain ideas about the world, about life in cities, about modes of transportation, etc. It is possible to present them with theories, but they often interpret it to "suit their own image." KOMA does not discuss the topic; KOMA realizes it. Through design City modules, it helps to create pop-up public spaces.

The year 2018 offered a range of interesting cultural events. Many of them featured CITY modules, which, due to their variability, are becoming increasingly popular.

Let's take it step by step. It is slowly becoming a tradition that at the end of April, CITY modules flood Zlín as part of the Zlin Design Week project, organized by students from the local Tomas Bata University. This year was no different, and the modules provided a backdrop for various artistic installations and presentations of design brands. At the same time, three modules traveled to Olomouc for the international festival of popular-science films AFO, and throughout May, nine modules served a non-traditional pop-up exhibition Sdílko in Ostrava. The layered composition Minilighthouse enlivened Wenceslas Square during the music festival Prague Spring.

However, the biggest event of this spring for CITY modules was the film festival in Zlín. At the turn of May and June, it was possible to see 39 modules, including design workshops and the Lighthouse setup, which provided facilities for Czech Television in the center of Zlín.

Of course, summer offered much more. CITY modules visited Karlovy Vary, and although this is a spa town, they certainly did not relax here. During the renowned film festival, they again played an important role as the house for Czech Television. There was also a setup for BMW with design coverings made from Cetris and plywood, designed by the Olgoj Chorchoj studio.

Meanwhile, the Lighthouse moved to Slovácké léto in Uherské Hradiště. Other modules enjoyed their summer on the square in Otrokovice and in Kroměříž, at Lipno or in Prague. They were also present at Colours of Ostrava or at the Barum Rally Zlín, and they ventured abroad - four went to Trenčianské Teplice, others to Aquapark Bešeňová and to Tatralandia.

The autumn did not lag behind either. In Prague at Anděl, the modules provided exhibition space for the commemoration of the fifty-year anniversary of the occupation by the armies of the Warsaw Pact and also appeared at Designblok - the largest design event in Central Europe.

At the Festival of Lights, they traditionally shone at the Prague Signal Festival, but also newly at the event Světlo Valmez.

As part of the largest documentary film festival in Europe called Ji-Hlava, the Lighthouse revitalized the historic square in Jihlava, and in October, CITY modules once again headed to the capital, where they were part of the celebrations of the hundred years since the founding of Czechoslovakia. On the occasion of this jubilee, Czech Radio organized an exhibition entitled Steps of Time at Wenceslas Square in Prague, which through ten decades reminded of both the history of our country and the role of the radio.

Winter, as usual, will be marked by Christmas markets, and you will be able to soak up the festive atmosphere together with City modules, for example, in Brno, but also in other cities across the country.
