Ostrava Theater Mír will build a new theater stage in Vítkovice

The first step on the long and difficult journey to a new cultural venue in Ostrava was taken by Albert Čuba, the founder of the Mír Theatre, on August 1, 2024. Appropriate contracts for the sale of a part of the land in the cadastral area of Ostrava-Vítkovice (the purchase contract and the related contract for the establishment of the construction right) were signed directly at the current Mír Theatre, where a new stage of the Mír Theatre is to be built at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in Ostrava-Vítkovice. The city councilors of Ostrava decided on the sale of land with an area of 3,528 m² at their June session. The purchase price for the land exceeds 14 million crowns. Ostrava will be the investor of a public underground parking facility with a capacity of approximately 100 spaces under the new theatre building.

The Mír Theatre has been operating in the Vítkovice district for more than seven years, and its intention is to develop artistic activities; however, the current capacity of the theatre building no longer allows for this. The existing premises have been fully booked for a long time, so elieva s.r.o., whose founder and managing director is Albert Čuba, operating the Mír Theatre, has decided to build a new cultural venue to provide more opportunities for those interested to engage in cultural experiences.

"At the new Mír Theatre stage, we want to expand our repertoire to also include more serious theatrical pieces, which are not yet typical for us; however, we already have experience with them in the current Mír. We therefore anticipate reaching a larger audience, offering a more diverse theatrical repertoire, a larger seating capacity, and above all, the possibility of choice. We also want to bring entirely new and unique cultural and audiovisual experiences to the audience, and thus we are interested in modern stage technologies utilizing, for example, large-format LED screens,” clarifies his intent Albert Čuba, the founder and director of the Mír Theatre.

The elieva company has also committed to preparing project documentation for submitting the plan to construct the underground public parking facility. The company presented the city council with an urbanistic-architectural solution for the new theatre complex, designed by architect Andrea Jašková and the company JA ARCHITEKTI.
