The new KOMA RENT building is constructed from the new product line Fashion Line, which KOMA launched at the end of 2020 at Designblok. Specifically, the headquarters of the Prague branch is a prototype of the Office series, buildings intended for business.
The grand opening took place at the beginning of September. The entire event was moderated by modular construction enthusiast Roman Vojtek, who interviewed the owner and director of KOMA, Mr. Stanislav Martinec, who revealed visions for the direction in which he wants to advance modularity. There was also an interview with branch director David Šikl, who spoke about his desire not to rent traditional containers like others, but entire modular buildings that improve quality of life, such as kindergartens, administrative buildings, recreational facilities, and more. He sees great potential in modularity. The last to speak was designer Adéla Bačová, who discussed the challenges of developing the new product line, talking about the prototyping process and the connection between design and modularity. The whole evening was complemented by relaxing music, the opportunity to view or ride in Tesla electrical vehicles, which share similar values and visions as KOMA. Thanks to the warm weather and great company, a pleasant atmosphere prevailed until the evening hours.
The building on Kutnohorská Street consists of 20 modules with a total area of 360 m2. It has 2 floors and barrier-free access to the ground floor. Inside, you will find offices, facilities, conference rooms, and meeting rooms, as well as a chill-out corner for relaxation or undisturbed calls. There is also a staircase with the width of one module and a smaller terrace on the upper floor.
At the entrance is a reception desk with a mirror foil finish covered with perforated sheet metal, which creates the illusion of glazing the entire reception counter. The interior furnishings of the building are chosen from designer pieces to ensure that visitors experience the design just as much from the inside as from the exterior.
The building features industrial decor of concrete and metal complemented by solid wood paneling, which adds warmth and coziness. Clean lines and industrial elements are used. The interior partitions are glazed, supporting the airy feel of the interior. Light shades of the floor and ceiling are complemented by wall coverings with a concrete appearance and black metal furniture. In the exterior, the design of the building features the characteristic curvature typical of the Fashion Line, with a facade made of corrugated perforated sheet metal. When designing, consideration was given to work-life balance for spending leisure time both inside and on outdoor terraces.
The Fashion Line has received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in the Product Design category. Fashion Line was designed by multidisciplinary designer Adéla Bačová.
