The Task Area concept from Zumtobel enables a new dimension of office lighting: it creates a homogeneous entity from the room, the fixtures, and the lighting management.

Working in modern offices is extraordinarily diverse – each day consists of various tasks. Communication methods alternate, creating documents on a PC, laptop, or on paper, communicating with customers and exchanging information; these tasks simultaneously impose various lighting requirements. Lighting solutions of the future, focused on the needs of such modern office worlds, take into account and simultaneously utilize the available space to enhance comfort and appeal. In the Task Area concept, the room, the lighting fixtures, and the management of lighting form a homogeneous entity. Lighting solutions thus do not only focus on the workstation and the activities carried out there, but also consider factors such as comfort, flexibility, and efficiency alongside other creative aspects.
A standard lighting concept (left) typically aims for uniform illumination of the entire room. The Task Area concept (right) divides the area of the room into individual zones, thus creating space for more creative work with light and reducing operating costs.

Higher quality: The Task Area is based on specific lighting requirements. Where needed, namely at the workspace, light is provided in the right quantity and at the highest possible quality; the light is tailored to the working individuals rather than the rooms.

Optimal energy efficiency: Significant savings can be achieved primarily by optimizing lighting in extensive buildings. The stronger the concentration on the Task Area, the lower the average level of overall illumination and the average energy consumption.

Merely uniform lighting (above) does not take into account the diverse lighting requirements within a room. Therefore, the basis of the Task Area concept is targeting the highest quality lighting to the workplace. Around the perimeter of the room, attractive lighting can then be worked with (below). This creates a very pleasantly lit working environment.

The Task Area concept is more than just a mere response to current needs in the design of office spaces. It manifests new trends and offers innovative ways of realization. New systems increase the flexibility of the building's structural modules, significantly facilitating potential additional renovations of offices or entire floors. The options are as diverse as the needs, ranging from individual cellular offices to large-space modular structures. For this purpose, Zumtobel offers ideal, tailor-made lighting concepts:
  • LIGHT FIELDS provides optimal illumination with excellent glare-free light not only at specific locations due to the micro-pyramidal optics (MPO) but also allows for the positioning of workstations anywhere and arranging the room according to diverse requirements. Thanks to its understated minimalist design, the LIGHT FIELDS fixture does not attract too much attention and is very effective.
  • Floor lamps with flexible adjustment options, whose individual light provides the user with flexibility and simultaneously ensures overall glare protection through the micro-pyramidal optics (MPO).
  • Indirect-direct pendant lights FREELINE installed directly above the workstation and orienting according to the room axes increase the operational efficiency of the fixture and also offer low energy consumption.
  • Light sails of LDS ceiling lights, which not only contain lighting technology but, if necessary, also acoustic functions and the possibility of integrating air conditioning elements. A module installed directly above the work area covers up to three axes of the building.
The Task Area concept complements the combination of these intelligent lighting systems with lighting management focused on specific needs. To maintain flexibility and the possibility of change in the workplace, as well as in the surrounding spaces, DALI concepts are supported, contributing to minimizing design and installation costs. This flexibility is evident throughout the entire lifecycle of the installation: an affordable LUXMATE Flexis system is available that allows for grouping fixtures with any adjustable options into the areas of workstations or room areas without impacting the installation.
