First, a few words about you. We are interested in how you perceive architecture yourself?
Architecture is important for the quality of life. A well-designed functional space has its aesthetic value, into which people then infuse their personal element. If people live well in such a space, they face problems much better and also experience all the happy moments more deeply. When you come home and trip over shoes in the hallway, you are much more likely to get angry at the kids, and your evening is impacted. It's that drop by drop that adds up. Architecture can simplify people's lives. At the same time, it is a craft that must be done well and thoroughly, including interpersonal or working relationships. That is why we choose our partners very carefully.
What does your studio focus on?
We design, fully process, but also realize apartments, family villas, small hotels, and administrative spaces for small businesses. Increasingly, people turn to us for advice. This is still an undervalued area. People find an apartment, but its layout and arrangement do not meet their requirements for a happy life. In such cases, an architect can help consider this life decision.
What role do bathrooms have in this?
The bathroom represents a completely distinct space. We start and end our day in it.
How did you learn about Perfecto design?
A colleague from a studio where I used to work recommended it to me. I believe it was architect David Nývlt. He considered you as a visualization partner. Later, I convinced myself that the quality offered by Perfecto design is above standard, both in the area of design and working with clients. I was impressed by the clear, fair approach. Sometimes it happens that the design is completely different from the realization. That hasn't happened to me with Perfecto.
How did your collaboration begin?
I don't remember exactly, but I think it was the project of the new family house of the Soudnýs, realized in 2015-16. If I recall correctly, there were two bathrooms and two toilets, which is standard for a four- to five-member family.
We have already mentioned it, but let's touch on it again: How is it working with Perfecto?
I have been working with Perfecto for a long time, and I enjoy it. The quality of work with clients and suppliers has not changed throughout this time. Whenever a problem arises on the construction site, which is common, I know I can pick up the phone and call, and they always try to help resolve everything as quickly and as well as possible. This support then maintains calm and comfort on the site and between the client. My experience is that at Perfecto, they don't look for culprits but solutions to the problem.
Have you noticed any difference in approach or behavior compared to other studios?
Yes, and it's significant. I found similarly pleasant service at a few smaller studios like Perfecto. And I'm glad about that. Some clients come in saying they want this and that because they found tiles there, or the construction supplier has discounts with one of the big studios with many branches; in that case, collaboration is often difficult, and as a result, those seemingly attractive conditions are not fulfilled. It may not necessarily be due to the people in large showrooms but rather the company's setup that has complicated layers of authority. It is always good when you address the whole project with one person – a face that can make decisions. Each of our projects is different, so I prefer and appreciate a personal approach. I also appreciate that Perfecto is not "conceited." When a client wants some specialty, Perfecto is not afraid to secure new suppliers; there is no problem even if I may want just one hook. The design team tries to design not just what the client requires but also what will be functional. The bathroom is part of the whole, and the designers at Perfecto view the design in the context of the entire apartment or family house. They do not hesitate to suggest construction adjustments so that everything you need fits into the bathroom.
What does your collaboration look like?
In the beginning, I made the design and selected items. At Perfecto, they then visualized it. Now it's such that I also ask for some recommendations. I present my vision, but I already take the studio as a partner. I always contemplate their proposals, and it often happens that I go with them. They already know me; for example, they know I like round shapes, so they accommodate me in that. However, when there is a request for a men's bathroom with a preference for square shapes, I am happy to be inspired. I no longer see Perfecto as a supplier. They are a partner to me.
Have you discovered any new product or technology thanks to Perfecto?
I am a curious person; I regularly attend events like the Milan Fair. Continuous self-education is key for me. Therefore, we mutually benefit each other. Sometimes they have a better overview of novelties; other times, I ask if they can arrange something specific. I like that they are always willing to reach out to a company they didn't know before.
Would you recommend Perfecto to other architects?
I even dare to send family members there.
If we can take that as a yes, then why?
With a good architect, builder, and suppliers, you ultimately always get higher quality. From experience, I know that the money allocated for construction or renovation is always spent completely. This applies even more to bathrooms because every centimeter truly matters. Details often decide – an exact niche for a washing machine, a bathtub without illogical, problematic spots or lack of space. With good, experienced, and reliable professionals, you can refine every detail, and smart details turn out to be cheaper in the long run.
Thank you very much for the interview; we appreciate your time.
Thank you as well; I value working with you; I wouldn’t do such an interview for everyone.
