Saint-Gobain Building Glass

At Saint-Gobain Glass, they have developed glass with the lowest carbon footprint on the market. Especially for buildings with glass facades, it will bring completely new possibilities, both for architects and designers as well as for investors and the customers themselves.

Only 7 kg CO2 eq./m2. This is the estimated carbon footprint of the new low-emission glass from Saint-Gobain Glass. Compared to their baseline European product, this is approximately a 40% improvement. These unique properties are realized through the use of glass recycling (up to 70% of the product comprises cullet) and renewable energy sources.

This unique type of glass will likely find its use primarily in the construction of glass facades. This is where its greatest benefit to the construction industry lies – facades account for 20% of the overall carbon footprint of a building. The glass will be combined with another exceptional solution from Saint-Gobain Glass, the low-emission coating COOL-LITE® XTREME. With its selectivity of over 2, it reduces the need for artificial lighting, heating, and air conditioning, thereby significantly reducing the carbon emissions produced during the use of the building.

The innovation is already receiving positive feedback from the market. Three major French developers (Bouygues Immobilier, Icade Santé, and Nexity) have committed to using the low-emission COOL-LITE® XTREME glasses in their projects.

Not only has Saint-Gobain created new opportunities for sustainable construction with this initiative, but it has also taken a significant step on its journey to carbon neutrality, which it aims to achieve by 2050.
