This was the theme of the fifth edition of the international design competition organized by FAKRO and the European architectural magazine A10. The task was to create a visualization of a functional workspace of the future studio, a place where the creative spirit meets a range of innovative solutions and creates conditions for bringing the visions of artists into reality. The competition projects were required to include at least three innovative FAKRO products.
The competition attracted architects from more than 20 countries worldwide, including Australia, Iran, Greece, Germany, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, Serbia, Portugal, and many others. More than 60 visionary attic projects were evaluated by an international jury composed of: Indira van´t Klooster – editor-in-chief of A10 magazine, Ethel Baraona Pohl – architecture critic and curator, Sabina Sujew – Master of Arts, head of export at FAKRO. The jury faced an exceptionally difficult task as the submitted projects were at a very high level. After heated discussions, the jury selected the winners: 1st place: Katarzyna Furgalińska and Michał Lisiński from Poland, project: Venus of Garage 2nd place: Aristide Antonas-Antonakakis from Greece, project: The Florizel building 3rd place: Fabio Damiani, Daniele Cremaschi, Marco Quistini, Silvia Pezzetti from Italy, project: Light Box
Honorable mentions: 1. Oficina de Arquitectura - Angelo Paez Calvo, Pedro Juan Jaramillo Carling, Lucas Jaramillo Pacheco, Jairo Hernan Ovalle Garay from Colombia, project: An Underground Atelier 2. Anna Ślimak and Monika Gitner from Poland, project: ARTERIER 3. Florent Le Corre and Katharina Riedel from Germany, project: Inspirational Workspace Unit 4. Krzysztof Stępień and Agnieszka Wyrwas from Poland, project: SOLITUDE – a place that doesn’t exist
The winners receive 5000 EUR for first place, 3000 EUR for second place, and 2000 EUR for third place. In their evaluation, the jury assessed the creativity of the architects, emphasis on details, ideas, lyricism, and also the social aspect – explains Sabina Sujew. The projects impressed us, which made the selection of the winner so difficult. The winning work was the one that was the most realistic and could arise and exist in any place in the world where garages are located. The projects we evaluated show that architects draw from typical architectural solutions and place great emphasis on the social aspect.
FAKRO congratulates the winners and thanks all participants for the submitted projects. We invite you to continue following FAKRO's activities and to participate in future editions of the competition.
