The Institute of Architecture of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at VUT Brno invites all interested parties to lectures by foreign guests, which will take place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Veveří 95, always in room D182 at 18:30. Admission is free.
Monday, October 20, 2014 Thomas Gordon Smith: Rule and Invention in Classical Architecture T. G. Smith is an American architect and painter. As the founder of the School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame, he revitalized the traditional method of teaching design in the classical language. The lecture will present the international movement for the return of classicism to architectural design. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Jan Michl: Design and Humor J. Michl is a Czech-Norwegian historian and theorist of design and architecture. The lecture will illuminate the phenomenon of humor in design as a non-private artistic activity directed towards the public, while also presenting the thesis that intelligent design solutions almost always contain an element of humor.

Engh is a Norwegian lawyer, secretary of the Scandinavian branch of INTBAU. The lecture will introduce the ‘charrette’ methodology for urban planning – a workshop where all parties, from developers and architects to municipalities and residents, as well as NGOs, collaborate to create a consensus-based plan.
