KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION, a leading supplier of modular buildings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, organized the 3rd year of the architectural competition for students of architecture and civil engineering at universities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, focused on buildings using spatial modules, titled "Modular Kindergarten". This year saw a record number of participating students, with a total of 72 registrations from all universities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The relevance of the needs of kindergartens was thus reflected in the number of submitted works. For this reason, in addition to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, three additional works were awarded special recognition. The awards were ceremoniously presented to the winners during the thirtieth year of the international construction fair CONECO in Bratislava in April 2009. A selection of student works can also be seen at the Olomouc Architecture Days fair. The exhibition will also include a lecture titled "Modular Kindergartens - a Solution to the Capacity Shortage in Kindergartens" on November 5, 2009, from 12:15 to 13:00 at the lecture center in the gallery of Pavilion A. The speaker, Ing. Martin Hart - Marketing Director of KOMA, will focus on the advantages of modular kindergartens in relation to the shortage of spaces in kindergartens. He will showcase the implementation of the first modular kindergarten in the Czech Republic and modular kindergartens abroad. Furthermore, he will present some interesting aspects of modular construction, mention the history of modular construction, and show other possibilities of utilizing modular buildings.
