The lecture series focused on green-blue infrastructure and urban adaptation to climate change continues on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 6 PM at the Pilsner Urquell brewery (in the garden of the Secese Conference Center). The guests for the evening, which will focus on water management in the city, will be hydrobiologist Jindřich Duras and geographer Jan Kopp.
Water connects everything and everyone. Therefore, it should not surprise us that climate change, accompanied by water scarcity, brings with it impacts we have not counted on. This opens up discussion topics that are unprecedented during times of water abundance. Everything needs to change; can we do it? So far, it doesn't seem likely... The lecture by hydrobiologist Jindřich Duras titled WATER AND US - (un)expected connections will address, for example, changes in the operation of ponds and water reservoirs, but also the fact that we not only fail to use water wisely but also fail to "dispose" of it properly.
Is green-blue infrastructure a fashionable term or an opportunity for urban development? In his contribution, Opportunities and Barriers to the Development of Green-Blue Infrastructure in the City of Pilsen, geographer Jan Kopp will illustrate, using the example of Pilsen, not only the possibilities for its planning and opportunities for its realization, but also the barriers preventing progress in this area. He will also explain why interdisciplinary cooperation is one of the basic prerequisites for further development.

RNDr. Jindřich Duras, Ph.D.
A hydrobiologist who has been dedicated to limnological topics (limnology = the science of continental water bodies with slow water exchange) for more than thirty years at the state enterprise Povodí Vltavy. He focuses on hydrobiology, enrichment of water with nutrients, acidification of aquatic environments, behavior of water reservoirs, issues concerning ponds and their usage. In recent years, he has also been addressing these topics in the field of water planning. He is a member of international commissions on nutrient issues and regularly lectures at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

RNDr. Jan Kopp, Ph.D.
He studied education and physical geography at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. He teaches at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Economics at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. His professional focus is primarily on the eco-hydrological issues of urban and suburban landscapes and adaptation of regional development to climate change.

The concluding part of the series, subtitled "Landscape in the City," will take place with the participation of landscape architect Klára Salzmann and landscape ecologist Jan Richtr on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 6 PM in the community garden PěstírnaDEPO (located in the DEPO2015 complex).
