A discussion with art historian Pavel Zatloukal about the works of Bohuslav Fuchs and Josef Štěpánek from the early 1920s. The lecture will conclude with the baptism of a new publication. In the settlement of Háj near Mohelnice, a remarkable complex has emerged with a hydroelectric power station and the villa of the Plhák family, which is a unique example of an artistic interpretation of the principle of energy transformation, once from the water element and the other from the earth. Both the book and the lecture will bring a rich pictorial documentation not only of the architectural works themselves but also of the fascinating fates of the Ellen and Karel Plhák family.
At the beginning, we will place one of the authors' works – Josef Štěpánek – within the thematic framework of Architecture Day, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jože Plečnik. Štěpánek belongs to the group of talented Moravian architects educated by this giant of Czech and Slovenian architecture.
The event is held as part of the Architecture Days Olomouc 2022. Admission is free.
