LUDVÍK HLAVÁČEK
HOW WE TRIED TO CATCH UP WITH THE CULTURAL WORLD AFTER THE FALL OF COMMUNISM

A presentation on the emergence of centers for contemporary art and alternative galleries. Ludvík Hlaváček was commissioned in 1992 to establish the Czech Soros Center for Contemporary Art. The American benefactor wanted to contribute to the democratic development of post-totalitarian society. The center organized several representative exhibitions that opened currently undeveloped themes in the Czech environment (new media, art in public space, etc.) and established the Jelení Gallery for the presentation of young artists. Reflections on new stimuli for understanding artworks, their presentation, and the social role of art.
