In the new semester, the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava will be organizing free public lectures once a month. The series dedicated to heritage conservation will be opened by lecturer Květa Jordánová with the topic Machine Industry in Moravia – Questions, Approaches, Foundations, on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 5:00 PM. The lecture will take place in the conference room at Odboje 1, Ostrava – Moravská Ostrava.
Even now, when technical monuments are understood as an integral and valuable part of cultural heritage, the machine industry finds itself in the same position as technical monuments generally did at the turn of the 1980s. Their existence was accepted, but they rarely appeared as topics at professional conferences, and the period of research leading to the understanding and protection of this heritage was yet to begin. The author of the contribution will introduce the audience to the most significant Moravian machine industries and their main production facilities, which will be presented from the perspective of historical, architectural, and construction-technical development. The lecture will also address the issue of care for this heritage and compare possible approaches with the foreign situation. More information >
