At the invitation of the Kruh association, in December the studio re:architekti will present, whose representatives have chosen architectural competitions as the topic of their lecture. As part of the Dialogues series, they invited a guest, the association CBAarchitecture, which is engaged in organizing architectural competitions. The lecture “How to Win an Architectural Competition” will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 7:30 PM at the Světozor cinema in Prague. In the dialogue, architect and co-founder of the re:architekti office David Pavlišta will meet with architect Tomáš Zdvihal, who co-founded the association CBArchitektura.
The architectural studio re:architekti was established in 2011 and from the outset chose urban planning tasks as its main theme. It quickly gained a reputation through frequent awards in architectural competitions. As a result, the focus of its work shifted to public buildings. The essence of the studio's work lies in its interest in context, in sensitivity, and empathy. Layering the city, connecting the old with the new is a key theme in their design of buildings and urbanism. Members of the re:architekti studio publish in professional journals, exhibit, give lectures, teach at universities, and are professionally engaged in urban administration.
The CBArchitektura association was established in 2012 as an informal group of architects in České Budějovice with the main vision of influencing the current shape of the city and the region, including in long-term visions. The goal of the association was not to design specific buildings, but to create a platform for sharing opinions on contemporary architecture and urbanism, for citizens and city councilors. The topics addressed by the association focus on fundamental questions such as how to build – why to build – what to build, how to choose an architect, what an architectural competition or workshop can bring, and further issues concerning public buildings and public space. Over the years, their activities have also expanded to a nationwide level. They are among the organizers of architectural competitions throughout the country.
The studio re:architekti, as well as the CBArchitektura association, have participated several times in the Architecture Day festival, which has been organized for 11 years by the Kruh association at various locations across the Czech Republic.
“An architectural competition opens up possibilities for cities to invite quality architects to solve their current problems. Currently, selected cities are not only considering what and how much to build, but also how well. Therefore, architectural competitions are essential for the development of our municipalities. However, the question arises, how can the competition be won? Do jurors select progressive solutions or rather conservative ones? What influence do independent jurors have and how can one defend a proposal anonymously? These are all questions that the upcoming Dialogue between David Pavlišty from re:architekti and architect Tomáš Zdvihal from CBArchitektura is meant to answer,” adds Marcela Steinbachová, founder of the Kruh association and the Architecture Day and Film and Architecture festivals, on the topic of the lecture.
The lecture by the studio re:architekti and the CBArchitektura association will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 7:30 PM at the Světozor cinema and will be conducted in accordance with the currently valid COVID-19 measures. Admission tickets for the event can be purchased at the Světozor cinema.
Lectures are prepared in accordance with the exceptional and protective measures issued by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The program may be subject to change according to current regulations by the government of the Czech Republic or foreign governments and their measures.
