On Thursday, November 3, 2016, a prominent Swiss architect and professor of architecture Annette Gigon will give a lecture in Prague. She gained international attention with one of her first projects, the Kirchner Museum in Davos in 1992, and since then, her firm Gigon / Guyer Architects, which she founded together with architect Mike Guyer in Zurich, has realized a number of other remarkable buildings across Europe. The studio is particularly known for its numerous gallery and museum projects, which stand out due to their extraordinary work with concrete and light. Her appearance will take place from 7:30 PM at the Světozor Cinema and is part of the Architects II series organized by the Kruh association, which this time gradually brings extraordinary women to the Czech Republic who significantly co-create the face of contemporary architecture around the world. In December, another world-renowned architect, South African Kate Otten, accepted the invitation from Kruh.

“Annette Gigon is an exceptional architect who influences contemporary Swiss architecture in a remarkable way; the signature of the Gigon / Guyer Architects office is distinctive and unmistakable. Their approach has contributed to the international renown of Swiss architecture, which this office represents alongside architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Peter Zumthorm, or Christian Kerez,” adds Marcela Steinbachová, the recent recipient of the Architect of the Year 2016 award and chairwoman of the organizing association Kruh. Annette Gigon (*1959 Herisau) graduated from the ETH Zurich Faculty of Architecture in 1984. In 1989, she founded the architectural studio Gigon / Guyer Architects with Mike Guyer. They gained international attention with one of their first projects – the Kirchner Museum in Davos. This was followed by the extension of the museum in Winterthur and the Archaeological Museum and Park in Kalkriese. In recent years, the firm has also focused on residential buildings and administrative structures. A key project was the Prime Tower skyscraper in Zurich, which initiated the revitalization and development of the newly built neighborhood around the former Hardbrücke railway station in Zurich.
