We cordially invite you to a presentation of the current state of the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library and a subsequent debate organized by the Antiquarian Bookshop and Club Fiducia in collaboration with the PLATO City Gallery. The debate will take place on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 6:00 PM at the PLATO Gallery.
Recently, the content of the planned new building of the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library, known as the "Black Cube," has been evolving. In addition to the requirement for the availability of the entire library collection in one place, which was the main argument for the construction of the new building, digitization has become another key planned component of the library. Beyond the digitization of the region's culture, symbolized by the slogan "from coal mining to data mining," the library should also serve as a center for education in technology and as a so-called "green library." It should utilize rainwater and offer paperless copying, while also becoming a center for climate awareness and a laboratory for renewable energy sources. The Moravian-Silesian Region, the library's founder, is currently trying to seek support for the library's construction from the Just Transition Fund. We will discuss how the Black Cube will look and what potential pitfalls the project may have with architect and author of the design "Black Cube" Ladislav Kuba and deputy governors of the Moravian-Silesian Region Jakub Unucka and Lukáš Curyl. Moderated by Marta Pilařová. WARNING! It will take place at the PLATO City Gallery, which is a co-organizer of the debate.
