Helena Čapková: Heritage Protection of Modern Architecture in Japan

The lecture will discuss the basic mechanisms of heritage conservation in Japan. It will also introduce the main organizations of professionals and lay enthusiasts that are engaged in the struggle and activism for the preservation of rapidly disappearing modern architecture. In the second part, the speaker will focus on specific cases such as the Cučiura villa in Meguro, the Akaboši villa in Kichijoji, and the Nakagin Tower in Ginza (all in Tokyo).
