The BLUE LECTURE SERIES lecture cycle continues with its 10th part, which will again be available for in-person attendance. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, May 17 at 5:00 PM in lecture hall no. 220 at VŠVU on Hviezdoslavovo Square in Bratislava. Architects and educators Petr Stolín and Alena Mičeková, along with sculptor and educator Jan Stolín, will present. Petr Stolín and Alena Mičeková belong to the small group of contemporary Czech architects whose work can be compared to the world’s leading figures in the field. Their designs do not conform to the speed and photogenicity of media events, as the main goal is to develop an authentic experience of inhabited space. The reason for their success is primarily a long-term exploration of the fundamental qualities of architectural art, which has led them to a developed poetics of moderation. When speaking about Petr Stolín, one can never overlook his collaboration with his brother Jan, a sculptor. They work together in a constant crossing of boundaries between visual art and architecture. In their joint projects, they strive to harness their long-standing experience working with space, which encompasses many conscious and incidental acquired qualities. It is a vision of a totally controlled environment, an environment that is built as open and offers new spatial contexts for perception. The main theme is the active reinterpretation of space through architectural interventions, inserted partitions, light, sound, and the movement of visitors. The goal is to provide an unusual experience of commonly encountered spaces. In recent years, this was very evident, for example, at their joint exhibition at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery, with the surprising experience of the space there. Petr Stolín works as an associate professor and head of the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Art and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec, where he and Alena Mičeková focus on teaching architecture by leading a specific workshop on conceptual analog modeling. Brother Jan is the head associate professor at the Department of Art and currently oversees a new study program in Fine Arts in Public Space.
