Architect in Practice 2023 - Lecture Series FA VUT

Within the lecture series 'Architect in Practice' for second-year master's students, nine creators will present their works during the winter semester, which were created under challenging conditions, with a limited budget, and primarily involving their own hands. In today's times of an inflated real estate bubble, when many middle-income households cannot afford mortgages, building on one's own can be not only a way to achieve affordable construction but also primarily a means for aspiring architects to thoroughly grasp their future profession, learn the craft, understand the properties of materials, predict the behavior of structures, and gain many other practical experiences that cannot be acquired by sitting in classrooms or in front of a computer.
At the beginning, we will present the temporary results of student design-build workshops, which have been organized for a long time at the Brno faculty by Barbora Ponešová and Kristýna Smržová at the Institute of Spatial Creation. Following will be works that, although built under difficult conditions, aim to serve their users in the long term.
The introductory lecture will take place on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 17:00 in the space of the women's educational association Vesna at Údolní 10. Subsequent lectures will be held at 17:00 either on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the large auditorium (A310) at the Faculty of Architecture, VUT at Poříčí 5.
