The Institute of Urbanism of the Faculty of Architecture of CTU organizes a working and program conference each year on current topics in the field of urbanism, planning, design, and construction of settlements. The conference mainly focuses on questions of contemporary planning and its links to real construction and the positive development of cities. Based on raising questions, the INVENTORY OF URBANISM emerged as a cycle of intensive meetings and a platform aimed at periodically mapping the state of urbanism in the Czech Republic and thus facilitating reflection on the field.
Previous years bore the following subtitles: IU 2010: What is it really about? IU 2011: What is a city, really? IU 2012: How to plan a city? Trends, methods, approaches. IU 2013: How to assign spatial plans?
At last year's conference, the outputs of the first phase of the research project "Methodology of Assigning Spatial Plans, program project Hl.mp 2013-15" were presented, which is being developed within the Research, Development, and Innovation Program of the City of Prague "The Relationship between Urban Development and Preparation of Spatial Planning Documentation" by the Faculty of Architecture of CTU. This year's edition will follow the Inventory of Urbanism 2013 and present the final outputs of the entire project.
"In the framework of a one-day conference, the structure and content of the final publications will be presented, the organizational principles and the processing process will be described. Following the morning lectures, there will be presentations of the outputs of individual teams in the afternoon," says Jan Jehlík, head of the Institute of Urbanism at the FA CTU and the main researcher of the research project.
The fundamental vision of the research is to create a methodology for assigning spatial plans derived from extensive research into the current expressions and significant trends of development of Czech cities in the European context. The purpose of the research is to verify the processes and relevant tools of spatial planning in relation to the assignment of spatial plans. It primarily involves verifying them in terms of their meaning and purpose, thus - among other things - in terms of the appropriateness of their existing legal anchoring.
"We want to find the correct assignment for the city's spatial plan. Therefore, we ask about the requirements for the assignment. Thus, we must inquire about the requirements for the development of the city, the requirements for the plan of this development, and the requirements for decision-making about this development. The goal is current, well-structured information, clearly formulated principles, and clear rules for negotiation," adds Jehlík.
