Prague - The Prague 7 city council has selected the winner of the architectural competition for the new design of Františka Křížka street in Holešovice. The winner is the design by architect Josef Hlavatý. CTK was informed by the spokesperson for Prague 7, Martin Vokuš. For example, the area in front of Bio Oko will be enlarged, and trees will be added. The estimated cost for the street reconstruction is 20 million crowns, and the renovation is set to begin in 2020. The street connects Veletržní with Milady Horákové and Kostelní streets.
"Františka Křížka street is one of the most important axes of Letná, which, thanks to a negotiated passage through the planned shopping center OC Letná, will create a direct connection between Letná gardens and Stromovka. The competition's brief therefore respected the needs of local residents, increased safety especially for pedestrians, and the overall effort to transform it into a pleasant place to stay," said councilor Lenka Burgerová (Prague 7 for itself).
According to the winning design, the space in front of Bio Oko will be expanded. Pedestrians will have more room in other parts of the street as well. The architect also proposes to make the street in front of the cinema one-way. Trees are to be planted here, and the sidewalks will be separated from the road by posts that will not block pedestrians from crossing the street.
The architectural competition was announced by the city council last November. Nine anonymous designs were submitted, and the jury was chaired by Vienna architect Gabu Heindl. The second place went to the design by Tomáš Kopecký and Jan Hájek, and the third was won by the company Unhary/Hana Sýkorová, Jan Linhart, and Jan Procházka.
The city council will now begin negotiations with the authors of the top three awarded designs and will select a contractor for the project documentation in the competition.
