Zlín - The Tomas Bata University in Zlín is likely to start building a Science and Technology Park for information and communication technologies next year. The facility, costing 250 million crowns, will rise in close proximity to the Faculty of Applied Informatics building in the largest district of Zlín, Jižní Svahy. This was stated by the university's rector, Petr Sáha. The university intends to connect the research and development base of the Faculty of Applied Informatics with the business sector. According to Sáha, the project will also support the retention or employment of quality graduates in Zlín. The school has secured funding for the investment from the European Union, with subsidies exceeding 187 million crowns. "As with all projects, there are certain questions here as well, primarily concerning the personnel structure. Research must be based on excellent individuals," Sáha noted. The Science and Technology Park is not the only project of the university that is set to begin construction next year. Work on the Center for Polymer Systems, costing 900 million crowns, will start in the first months of 2011. It will be located between Antonínova Street and Tomáše Bati Avenue. The project will provide research and development for 40 selected manufacturing companies from the Zlín region as well as from foreign partners.
