The Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague announces that on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, architect and photographer Ing. arch. Milan Pitlach, born in 1943 in Kroměříž, passed away in Düsseldorf after a long illness. He graduated in architecture from the CTU in 1966 and then gained his first experience at the then Project Institute of the City of Prague, Atelier Delta. His creative interest has always oscillated between architectural creation and photography since his studies. In the early seventies, he first caught the attention of his contemporaries with an exhibition: a striking poetic report from the first music festivals in England. At the same time, he recorded a number of absurd moments from the era of Czech normalization. He decided to emigrate to Western Europe during the 1980s, which gave both his architectural and photographic work a completely new dimension. He became a true cosmopolitan. He worked in the studio of German architect Oswald Matthias Ungers, who had a significant influence on his further understanding of architectural work. At the beginning of the millennium, he moved his activities to Shanghai, China, leaving his mark in a number of projects that were extensively published. He traveled around the world with a camera, always bringing back a multitude of photographs, human destinies in various situations, in poverty, sadness, and joy. He was interested in the faces of the landscapes in the countries he visited: mountains, seas, silence, and wind. Recently, he was processing records into amazing exhibitions and publications. He decided to dedicate his energy to the personality of his teacher O.M. Ungers through a dissertation at the FA. May his memory be honored!
