Interested parties can view the design of the new Brno train station

Brno – Interested parties can from today view the model and visualizations of what the new main train station in Brno should look like, which is planned to be built at the site of the current lower station. The traveling exhibition is located in the Křížová corridor at the New Town Hall until October 23 and is accessible on weekdays. Thanks to the model, people can also see how the broader relations should look, i.e., the appearance of the urban space in front of and behind the station.

The exhibition includes graphic panels presenting details about the future of the station, as well as a large model including the surroundings. Starting in November, it will move to the Vaňkovka shopping center and from November 24 until the end of the year, it will be at the Urban Center on Mečová Street.

The authors of the architectural study, which was completed this year, are the Dutch from the Benthem Crouwel Architects studio in collaboration with West8. "The project reflects the extensive experience of Dutch architects who are the authors of the stations in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht. The new station will not be a barrier in the city; there will be equally valuable public spaces both in front of and behind the station. This will enable balanced development in the area south of the new station," said councilor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS).

The new station is meant to meet higher demands for suburban transport, as well as for high-speed lines that could start being built in 2026. The construction of the station is expected to begin according to the Czech Railways Administration's estimates in 2028 and finish six years later. The estimated costs according to a 2017 study are to be 50 billion crowns, which include both the construction of the new station and the complete reconstruction of the railway hub.
