Prague - A retrospective exhibition dedicated to the world-renowned architect and designer Eva Jiřičná has been visited by over 40,000 visitors at the DOX Contemporary Art Centre in Prague. Many of them also participated in accompanying programs, including guided tours. The last of these will take place on August 11, a day before the exhibition ends. Hana Janišová informed CTK about this today on behalf of DOX.

The exhibition, which started on March 21, featured 25 models, eight guided tours so far, and 11 types of accompanying programs. The exhibition's curator, Leoš Válka, stated that the exhibition includes nearly 700 projects. "Not all of them are represented here, but they are at least listed; there are dozens of examples of her projects that are documented with photographs, projections, and there are interviews about the course of projects and their philosophy," he said.

The exhibition offers examples of original project documentation and architectural models of several significant realizations by Jiřičná. The highlight of the exhibition is a monumental glass staircase created in 1994 for the interior of the Paris branch of the Joan & David store chain. After the branch closed in spring 1998, the staircase was dismantled and transported to the Czech Republic. After more than 20 years, it has been restored for the purposes of the exhibition.

Part of the exhibition titled Jiřičná included a rich accompanying program not only at the DOX Centre. For residents of the British capital, where Jiřičná has been working since 1968, a lecture was prepared in cooperation with the Czech Centre London. Visitors could also walk through the Orangery of Prague Castle with architect Zdeněk Lukeš, discuss the position of female architects in a panel discussion, or examine the influence of Jiřičná on contemporary architecture as part of the series What is the Vision of Prague. Almost a thousand listeners attended two lectures held in the DOX+ hall, during which Eva Jiřičná introduced the audience to significant projects from her career as well as her latest project, the New Žižkov Centre, with which she succeeded in an international architectural competition.

Eva Jiřičná is the most recognized architect of Czech origin in the world. She has become a prominent representative of the high-tech style, but her work also reflects echoes of organic and minimalist architecture. Her sources of inspiration are showcased in a large-scale projection in the first exhibition hall. These include architects, but also music and everything that moved society in the 1960s and 1970s. Her work is characterized by form elegance, lightness of expression, and harmony between form and function. She shapes interiors as well as family houses, and designs public buildings of various types, among which can be found libraries, hotels, schools, congress centers, and transportation terminals.
