Výstaviště Flora in Olomouc is preparing a reconstruction of the greenhouses for 165 million crowns

Olomouc - The Exhibition Center Flora in Olomouc is preparing an expensive reconstruction of its collection greenhouses and the palm greenhouse, which is a listed immovable cultural monument. The repair of the collection greenhouses will require an investment of approximately 120 million crowns, excluding VAT, and the palm greenhouse will cost 45 million crowns. CTK obtained this information today from materials for the councilors, who will discuss the city's contribution to the project documentation for these planned investments next Monday.

"The greenhouses are in poor technical condition, and their operation is very energy-intensive," the report for the councilors states. The reconstruction of the greenhouses is expected to be financed with the help of a grant from the modernization fund or an operational program focused on the environment. The project preparation will also be financially demanding, costing a total of 15.7 million crowns, excluding VAT. The councilors will discuss a proposal from the board next week for the city to provide 8.3 million crowns from its current budget for the project preparation for the Exhibition Center Flora.

The collection greenhouses of the Exhibition Center Flora Olomouc are among the oldest greenhouses in the Czech Republic. The largest and oldest of the greenhouse complex is the palm greenhouse, which was built between 1927 and 1930 and is designated as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The neighboring cactus greenhouse in Smetanovy sady was built alongside the tropical greenhouse in the 1950s. It was opened on August 18, 1962, during the inauguration of the nationwide horticultural exhibition.

In addition to the collection greenhouses, the Exhibition Center Flora also manages a botanical garden and a rose garden. These tourist destinations were visited by nearly 180,000 people last year, which is 12 percent more than the previous year. The greenhouses, botanical garden, and rose garden ranked fourth among the most visited tourist attractions in the Olomouc Region last year.
