Třebíč - The exhibition at the Basilica of St. Procopius, the Jewish Town, and the cemetery in Třebíč will present the first publication from an extensive project by the artistic agency Foibos dedicated to Czech monuments inscribed on the UNESCO list. The book, which will be baptized at the exhibition, is published in Czech and English. The author is Rudolf Fišer. The text is complemented by numerous photographs, and the book has about 150 pages.
"The book from the UNESCO World Heritage series will be presented to visitors in a shortened form on 15 exhibition panels," said Lenka Jirátová, director of Foibos Books, to ČTK. The exhibition in the Třebíč Back Synagogue will start on Wednesday, April 14, and will last until May 15.
According to Jirátová, the entire project is financially demanding. "The publication of one book and the provision of the exhibition represents costs of nearly two million crowns. Partially, it is covered by a grant from the Ministry of Culture, and to a greater extent by sponsors," Jirátová stated. The series should continue with Kutná Hora and Holašovice, with Telč currently in progress.
There are currently 12 monuments on the UNESCO list in the Czech Republic. The first to be inscribed in 1992 were the historical cores of Prague, Telč, and Český Krumlov. Gradually, the Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora in Žďár nad Sázavou, the core of Kutná Hora, the Lednice-Valtice Area, the village architecture complex in Holašovice, the castle and gardens in Kroměříž, the castle in Litomyšl, the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc, and the Tugendhat Villa in Brno were added. The Třebíč monuments were inscribed as the most recent in 2003.
The paper mill in Velké Losiny near Šumperk has another chance to be inscribed on the UNESCO list, where handmade paper is produced using a technique essentially unchanged for centuries. Other candidates include Renaissance houses in Slavonice in the Jindřichův Hradec region, the Třeboň fishpond system, and the unique rock sculpture ensemble of Matyáš Braun in the Bethlehem area near the castle in Kuks in the Trutnov region.
