Vrchlabí – The twelve-thousand-strong town of Vrchlabí in the Trutnov region began construction of a covered swimming pool for 188 million crowns without VAT in early April. Builders from Metrostav DIZ are expected to complete the project by the end of October 2022. Mayor of Vrchlabí and Senator Jan Sobotka (Zvon) told ČTK today. Heavy machinery is currently working on the construction site, and the builders are performing earthworks.
The pool, which has been discussed in the city for nearly 40 years, will be built on the outskirts of Vrchlabí in the Vejsplachy area. It will be located by the Kačák pond, which the city converted into a natural swimming area four years ago. Six years ago, the city opened a sports complex in the Vejsplachy area, costing 120 million crowns, covering over seven hectares with three fields for football, athletics, and other sports. There are also artificially snow-covered running tracks.
Part of the aquapark, which will be largely built into the ground, will include a swimming pool with four lanes of 25 meters in length, a training pool, a relaxation pool, hot tubs, an outdoor slide, and other attractions.
According to Sobotka, the city will pay for the construction of the pool from previously saved funds. They also want to obtain a grant from the National Sports Agency for the construction.
Because the city has saved up for several years for the pool, it will not have to cut back on other investments. "Primarily this year, we want to carry out the reconstruction of the central part of Krkonošská Street for about 35 million crowns," Sobotka said.
Last year, Vrchlabí built utility networks, roads, and parking lots near the pool. Including this investment and other accompanying costs, the entire aquapark project will cost the city more than 200 million crowns. This represents one of the largest investments in the history of Vrchlabí. The largest investment was the construction and reconstruction of the sewage system of Clean Upper Elbe for 600 million crowns from 2009 to 2010.
The construction of the pool in Vrchlabí is not the only investment by towns in the Hradec Králové Region in recent years related to swimming. Last year, Trutnov completed a comprehensive reconstruction of an outdoor swimming pool for 75 million crowns. Opočno opened the renovated Broumar swimming pool last year, where the investment amounted to over 30 million crowns. A new swimming pool in Hostinné for 49 million crowns is expected to start operations this summer.
