The Zlín school on Dřevnická street has undergone a reconstruction costing 83 million

Zlín - The extensive reconstruction at the 10th Primary School in Dřevnická Street in Zlín has been completed today. The renovation of the monument-protected building cost 83 million crowns. The state contributed 13 million to the reconstruction, while the rest was invested by the city from its budget over two years, said Deputy Mayor Hynek Steska at the ceremonial opening today.
    The school's renovation began last year, when workers replaced windows, electrical wiring, and heating, and renovated the interiors. During last year’s holidays, the school also received a new roof, and the toilets, washrooms, and other social facilities were modernized.
    This year, workers continued with the repair of sewage and water supply systems, replaced floors, plasters, tiles, and paving. The walls in the building received new paint and murals. Two heat exchange stations were newly built in the school.
    "Planning and reconstruction were consulted with heritage protectors. All their requirements had to be maintained,” said the school principal Jitka Gavendová to the journalists. According to her, the extensive renovation did not affect the operation of the school or the educational process.
    The premises of the primary school in the Bartošova district were designed by architect Miroslav Drofa. The project for the primary school dates back to 1957. The architect drew inspiration from the traditional concept of Baťa buildings. He used bare brick in combination with smooth plastered surfaces, flat or slightly sloping gable roofs. The complex was built in a natural setting with park landscaping. Currently, there are modern sports facilities and a summer swimming pool near the school.
    Last year, Zlín allocated about 100 million crowns for the repairs of schools, playgrounds, and sports facilities; this year, around 70 million crowns are budgeted. The Zlín City Hall manages 13 primary schools in the city area.
