Mladá Boleslav - The train station in Mladá Boleslav is set to undergo a complete reconstruction costing 150 million crowns. A modern building with a grassy roof will replace the current dilapidated structure, and the surrounding area will also be revitalized. The costs will be covered by the European Union and Czech Railways. However, the commencement of work in the fall is likely to be delayed as Czech Railways have still not selected a designer, said Robin Povšík (ČSSD), the deputy governor of the Central Bohemian Region, to CTK today. According to the schedule that Czech Railways committed to, a designer for the construction was supposed to be selected by April. "Next week, we should meet with the CEO of CD, Petr Žaluda, to evaluate the fulfillment of the contract in this matter. If they only start selecting a designer now, they will not be able to meet the plan, and we will have to react to the situation, possibly reducing payments," said Povšík. The selected architectural design for the main station in Mladá Boleslav is a two-story futuristic building from Atelier Velehradský that blends into the surroundings through a sloping grassy roof. Employees and operations from surrounding buildings, which are set for demolition, are also expected to move into the new station. The latest study replaced a previous design, which, in the form of a glass building, sparked a wave of discontent, with nearly 2000 people signing an online petition for the preservation and repair of the old building since last February. The current futuristic design is also supported by Mladá Boleslav councilor Adolf Beznoska from ODS. Previously, he preferred the reconstruction of the old structure, but he now considers the proposed overall solution for the station area to be beneficial. European funds are expected to cover up to 70 percent of the total costs for the station's reconstruction. According to the plan, the project is to be completed by the end of August, and construction work was supposed to begin in the fall, stated Povšík. The Central Bohemian Region, along with Czech Railways, is also preparing repairs for stations in Nymburk, Kutná Hora, Zdice, and Hořovice.
